Ingredients

For the smoothie

  • 2 large ripe avocados, halved and pitted
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk, chilled
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, for drizzling (optional)

Directions

  1. Scoop the avocado flesh from the skins and discard the pits, placing the soft green flesh directly into a high-speed blender.
  2. Add the chilled whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and the optional sugar to the blender with the avocado.
  3. Toss in the ice cubes on top of the other ingredients so they blend down into the mixture more efficiently.
  4. Blend on high speed for 45 to 60 seconds, stopping once to scrape down the sides with a spatula, until the mixture is completely silky and smooth with no avocado chunks remaining.
  5. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness by adding more condensed milk or sugar, then blend for 10 seconds to combine.
  6. Drizzle about 1 teaspoon of chocolate syrup along the inside walls of each tall glass, then slowly pour the avocado smoothie into the glasses.
  7. Finish each glass with a small swirl of chocolate syrup on top and serve immediately with a wide straw and long-handled spoon.
  8. Drink right away while the smoothie is at its coldest and creamiest, as it will thicken slightly if left to sit.

Cook’s Notes

  • Choose avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure; very soft avocados make the creamiest smoothie.
  • For an even thicker, frostier texture, peel and freeze the avocado chunks for 30 minutes before blending.
  • If the smoothie tastes flat, a tiny pinch of salt amplifies the sweet and nutty notes beautifully.
  • Serve in chilled glasses to keep the drink cold longer in warm weather.
  • For a tropical variation, swap half of the whole milk with coconut milk for a richer Southeast Asian flavor.
